John Fowler is an artist based in Carrshield, close to Alston, working deep in the North Pennines countryside.
"Borrowing a phrase from Cezanne I make art from nature. I am not really interested in working solely on mechanically recording what I see. Aside from that I would prefer to write little about my general intentions. A painter's job is to paint, not write, and his paintings should speak for themsleves though I quite like to share what inspired me on individual pieces."
